They claimed that Apacheta Creek was the source of the Amazon and added 353 more kilometers to the length of the river. Eventually, the length of the Amazon River was determined to be 6,992 kilometers (4,345 miles). In this study, the researchers also concluded that the Nile River in Africa is actually shorter than previously thought, at around 6,853 kilometers (4,258 miles).

Although this discovery would make the Amazon River the longest river in the world, the news was met with skepticism by many, especially since the study was not published, raising doubts about the methodology used. Not only that, several other expeditions have also proposed different sources for the Amazon River.

In this context, one thing that is certain is that the length of the Amazon River is still an unsolved puzzle. Scientists are constantly trying to find an accurate answer, but with such extreme and diverse environmental conditions, determining the length of this river is proving to be a very difficult task.
